Dead Island is a non-linear first-person shooter in which you find yourself on a zombie-infested island with the simple goal of surviving as long as possible. What follows is a desperate struggle for survival against overwhelming odds. The game is set on the fictional island of Banoi, a tropical paradise that has been overrun by a mysterious plague that has turned the majority of the population into ravenous zombies. You play as one of four different characters, each with their own unique skills and abilities, and must work together with other survivors to complete quests, find weapons, and ultimately find a way off the island.

Dead Island هي لعبة تصويب منظور أول غير خطية تجد نفسك فيها على جزيرة موبوءة بالزومبي مع هدف بسيط وهو البقاء على قيد الحياة لأطول فترة ممكنة. ما يلي هو صراع يائس من أجل البقاء على قيد الحياة ضد الصعاب الساحقة. تدور أحداث اللعبة في الجزيرة الخيالية بانوي، جنة استوائية اجتاحها طاعون غامض حوّل غالبية السكان إلى زومبي جشعين. تلعب دور أحد أربعة شخصيات مختلفة، لكل منها مهارات وقدرات فريدة خاصة بها، ويجب أن تعمل مع الناجين الآخرين لإكمال المهام والعثور على الأسلحة وفي النهاية إيجاد طريقة لمغادرة الجزيرة.
